03-02-2021 KANSAS HAY MARKET REPORT

Full report

Hay market prices were steady for all hay types and demand remains strong for alfalfa, although now that we have warmer weather, the urgency has lessened. The first day of March was truly a lamb with comfortable temperatures in the high 40’s and 50’s with light winds. As the temperatures rise and days get longer, many are counting the bales they have left in their barns and the number of days to the first green up of pastures, which may prompt some to let loose of inventory they feel they don’t need. Folks are also busy preparing equipment for the 2021 hay season and getting ready to spread fertilizer if they haven’t already. According to the US Drought Monitor for the week of February 23rd, no changes were made to the drought categories. Abnormal dryness (D0) remained at 16.5%, moderate drought (D1) remained at 23%, severe drought (D2) remained at 6.5%, and extreme drought (D3) remained at 10%. If you have any extra hay to sell and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the services of the Internet Hay Exchange:www.hayexchange.com/ks.php. ** Prices below reflect the average price. There could be prices higher and lower than those published.
