Program for Seniors eases access to life-saving information
Operation Red File has successfully aided seniors in keeping their critical health information accessible in an emergency throughout counties in Kansas. K-State Research and Extension – Harvey County will soon bring that opportunity here.
Research and Extension is partnering with the Kansas Department on Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) for an Operation Red File event at Hope Fest in Harvey County from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 29. A KDADS staff member will be on-hand to help fill out the forms, take an updated picture and answer questions to get seniors started using this life-saving program.
Participants in Red File are encouraged to put copies of their medical information and other critical documents in the file folder, such as a medical form with current medical information, a medication list that should be updated as needed and medical coverage information.
Quick access to medical information is pivotal for emergency responders, allowing instant access to medical history and medication records in an emergency, avoiding delays, ensuring family or the responsible party will be notified and providing a photograph in the case of a Silver Alert.
Sponsor donations have made it possible for anyone attending Hope Fest to receive their Red File. Sponsors for Operation Red File include the Harvey County Health Department, Newton Medical Center, Bluestem PACE and Central National Bank.
