Gage Burt, of Wichita, recently earned academic team honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Burt is a member of the Wheaton College wrestling team, which held the ninth-highest team GPA out of 41 competing teams at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships with a 3.28 team average.
The Thunder wrestlers finished second in the 2016 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Wrestling Championships and placed third at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships.
Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III Individual National Championships all-time.
