I remember: It was there all the time!

There is a story that publisher William Randolph Hearst had heard about a certain piece of artwork and decided that he wanted to have it. He sent two young men out to look for it so he could buy it.

`           When the came back after several weeks, the told him where he could find it…in his own warehouse. He wanted something he already owned. It was there all the time!

There’s something familiar that relates to life in this story, don’t you think? Many times we want something we already have or have had. Yet we do not realize it and think we want something else.

As I think back I know there have been times when something happened that took away someone or something  close to me, I would have given almost anything to get it back. Yet when I could have been closer to that situation, I wasn’t aware of it. It was there all the time and I didn’t know it.

Perhaps you, like me, have attended funerals of people we have known and when the obituaries were read, we were astonished at the good traits of those persons and wondered why we didn’t see that at the time. It was there all the time.

I do remember as I was growing up, of being happy to be an American, of living in a country where I can worship God freely, pretty much do what He leads me to do without reprisal from the government, and enjoy my rights as an American Citizen. Now as I look at the way things are going, I wonder if I appreciated it enough. Did I really make a stand every chance I got or did I leave it to someone else to do. Did I cast my vote every chance I got or did I leave it for others to do. If we feel something is going right, do we comment on it or just let it

I can remember as a young girl, always looking forward to the time I would be a grown-up and be able to make my own decisions. Now, as I look back, I wonder if I really took the time to enjoy the moments of happiness that came along each day.

Later, I looked forward to when I would be older and wondered how I would enjoy all the wisdom older people supposedly have. Now that is has come, the only thing I’m really aware of is that I will never know everything, thank goodness!

There is, however, another little situation that comes along with the aging bit

and that is the “senior moments” that also come along with age but that, also, has its advantages. Worrying is hard to do when you can’t remember what it was that troubled you. So what if I can’t find my glasses all the time, they’ve got to be somewhere. and if I have a little patience, they usually show up, even if it is when I look in the mirror and see I have them on!

God has given us many promises from His word that are always there and waiting if we just claim them. He gives is hope if we let Him. Peace comes from turning everything over to Him and knowing that is, in His power, can work every-thing out in His time.

We can even turn our concerns about the presidential election over to Him and yes, even feel peace, because, if we have asked him into our heart and if we let Him, He is there all the time.
