Barton Softball sweeps weekly conference honors for third time this season

The Barton Community College softball team swept the conference weekly honors for the second straight week and the third time this season as McKenna Mauler and Madison Didion were named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week.  The duo’s performances helped the Cougars go 8-1 last week including to victories over ranked opponents improving to 24-2 on the season.  Barton will return to conference play this week beginning with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday hosting Seward County Community College at Cougar Field before wrapping up the week Friday at Dodge City Community College.

Batting out of the No. 8 hole in the lineup, Mauler batted .522 on the week including .667 against ranked opponents this past week.  Getting a hit in each of the nine games, Mauler had two game winning hits with the first coming on a solo home run versus No. 6 Butler followed by a game winning two-run double against DII No. 12 ranked Highland.   Mauler finished her week with a grand slam homerun hitting three dingers and driving in eleven runs on the week.

Madison Didion picked up two more victories this past week over ranked opponents earning five wins in the circle improving the freshman’s record to 13-1   Capping her week with a thirteen strikeout performance at Cloud County, seven of her thirty-one strikeouts on the week came in a key conference win over No. 6 Butler.   Additionally, bouncing back from having a 30.1 innings of not surrendering a walk streak snapped in the second inning of the first game this week, Didion only gave up the free pass three times in her next twenty-eight innings of work
