Derby: Students compete in theater festival

Students from Emporia State University will compete at the Kennedy Center Region V American College Theatre Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jan. 17 – 23.

At the festival, students from a seven-state region perform in a number of competitions, including the Michael Kanin Playwriting Award through the Kennedy Center and the $2,000 Irene Ryan Scholarship, which requires a nomination to audition.

Student designers, playwrights, stage managers, directors, & technicians will also present their portfolios and projects at the weeklong festival. Competing from this area are:

Tyler Lang of Wichita, Kansas, will be a cast member in the SDC directing initiative and compete in the tech crew showdown.

Lisa Tinker of Derby, Kansas, will compete for the Irene Ryan Scholarship for her role in “As You Like It,” participate in the stage management initiative and be a cast member in the SDC directing initiative.

Logan Wohlford of Valley Center, Kansas, will be a cast member in the SDC directing initiative.
