Cougars Defeat Independence to Win Six Straight

Finding a way to combat a subpar offensive night, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team turned defensive with a 63-46 victory over Independence Community College Wednesday evening at the Barton Gym. Being held to its second lowest point total of the season, the Cougars turned the tide holding the Pirates to its lowest offensive output cruising to the seventeen point victory. Winners of six straight the Cougars remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0 while improving to 12-3 on the season dropping Independence to 2-4 in the Jayhawk and 11-4 overall. Barton returns to the road where the Cougars have already won three straight to open conference play heading to Chanute, Kansas, on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip at Neosho County Community College.

Three Cougars hit the double-digit mark led by Derek Dorn’s sixteen point four assist night followed by Keith Mack’s thirteen points. Dequandre Dentmond recorded his fourth double-double of the season scoring ten points and leading a 42-36 edge on the glass hauling down a game high twelve rebounds.

No Independence players reached double-figures as Tyrone Riley would lead the Pirates with nine points with David Beasley one point behind with eight.
