The Barton Community College Board of Trustees approved at Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting for the promotion of Ousmane “OC” Camara as head coach for the women’s soccer team. Serving the past two years as assistant coach for both the men and women’s programs, Camara will assume the head women’s position as Aaron Avila will concentrate his efforts in continuing to lead the men’s program.

“OC has been a tremendous asset to Barton Soccer over the course of the last two seasons in his role as assistant coach for both programs”, said Barton Athletic Director Trevor Rolfs. “A former soccer athlete here at Barton, OC understands the importance of competing at a high level, while also keeping our mission of producing well rounded individuals in mind. As we transition back to our traditional pattern of a head coach for each the men’s and women’s programs, I have confidence OC will continue to lead our women’s team down the successful path that has been well established.”

Camara began his collegiate career joining the Cougars in 2009, playing one season in the Barton uniform in 2010 before continuing his academic career at Fort Hays State University earning a bachelor degree in political science in May 2013.

Camara previously coached at Thomas More Prep High School and the Hays Soccer Club before a brief stint at Western Texas College under previous Barton women’s soccer coach Shawn Uhlenhake.

Becoming the eighth coach in Lady Cougar history, Camara holds a Level 6 Diploma and the National Diploma from the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America). Born in Conakry, Guinea, Camara is polyglot five languages including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and his native tongue Susu.

Coaching the women’s program for four years including dual responsibilities of leading the men the past two years, Avila turns the reigns over to Camara with a talented group of freshman returning for their sophomore year including five All-Jayhawk Conference performers. Although continued assisting Camara with the program, Avila finishes his lead role with a 46-22-5 record including four straight Region VI final four appearances, twenty-six player postseason awards, and a 2012 Coach of the Year honor.
